Optimizing a scene for the best render times can be extremely complicated. Thankfully, low render settings will look fine for simple scenes such as Smash 4 models. In the above image, increasing the render settings of the production render mode from low to very high produces negligible improvements in image quality. The high quality render does look cleaner, but renders roughly 103x slower. Start at low settings and gradually increase them until the render looks clean enough to clean up in Photoshop, Gimp, etc. Optimization of the render settings will greatly improve render times without sacrificing too much on quality.
